A NOTE FROM CYNTHIA...

It is my passion to provide good, solid information about how to eat to promote health, correct imbalances naturally, lose weight and just feel fantastic.  But that is only half the picture..

The other half is guiding people to get out of their own way!  Most of us know what to do, but we just can't always do it.  Emotional/binge eating, poor personal boundaries and too much stress can sometimes prevent you from truly eating and living exactly the way you want to.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone!

For today, forgive yourself and choose well at your next meal.

For tomorrow, don't hesitate to give me a call for a complementary chat to see if I can help you gain some control and reach those goals you know you truly want.

Sometimes we all need a partner:)

I sure did.. check out "Cynthia's Story" below.

SUCCESS STORY

In the six months that I worked with Cynthia, I learned many valuable lessons.  Lesson One:  Fad Diets are not for everyone.  I learned that eating healthy is a ay of life and not just something one does to lose weight.

The most important lesson of all was learning to accept my body and its limitations, to be able to enjoy food while not feeling guilty when I indulge a little. I went to Cynthia wanting to lose weight, yearning for an easy solution. I walked away knowing that the solution is to feed your body healthy foods, stay away from the processed stuff as much as possible, and to focus more on how my body felt rather than the numbers on the scale.  Being healthy is now so much more attainable, and Cynthia made it so easy.  Thank you so much!

Top Eight Things to Know About Shopping in a NATURAL FOOD MARKET

One of my favorite services is offering personally guided NATURAL FOOD MARKET TOURS monthly for anyone who can come to Manhattan!  You may be wondering what exactly is a food market tour?

Basically, it’s a "more-fun-than-you-would-expect" guided walk through a natural food market to introduce you to many foods and products that support a healthy lifestyle based on a whole foods diet.  We are blessed that our natural food stores these days have such a rich array of choices.  However, what I often hear from clients is, “I am so overwhelmed in Whole Foods!  I don’t know what half that stuff is, don’t know how to choose well, and have no idea what is most important to look for in those labels!  I can’t figure out how to actually put a meal together!”

The purpose of the tour is to demystify the confusing choices, introduce to you a huge assortment of products you probably didn’t even know existed, and offer you fresh ideas for meal planning.  We cover produce, packaged products, label reading, organics, prepared foods, specialty items for fast cooking, basics for stocking a healthy kitchen and so much more!

So I have polled prior tour attendees for the most beneficial, life shattering and just plain interesting tips and tricks they learned from one of my tours that have helped transform their shopping experience and eating habits.

Here are the top eight tips you need to know about Health Food Store shopping:

1.  It is guaranteed that any sticker label on a piece of organic produce will start with the number 9.  If you see that the sticker starts with a “4”, and the store is telling you it is organic, they are lying!

2.  Frozen fish burgers are natural, preservative-free, and make fantastic quick dinner options when you pair them with some sautéed greens and a grain.  They come four to a box- try the tuna, mahi-mahi or salmon.

3.  There are so many new, delicious varieties of organic soups.  Brands to consider are Amy’s, Sheltons and Health Valley.  They are generally lower in sodium and sugar than commercial brands, and always chemical-free.

4.  Brown rice snaps are the best gluten-free, wheat-free crackers ever.  Low calorie, tasty, crunchy and a perfect snack replacement for the 4pm “I want sugar craving” when paired with some guacamole or hummus.

5.  Not all snacks in the health food store are healthy!  Although soy based snacks like soy crisps and  soy crunchies are tasty, they can very quickly produce gas and bloating, are fairly high calorie and offer very low nutritional value.  If you want something crunchy/snacky, try olive oil or sweet potato based potato chips, also sold in the snack aisle.

6.  The asian/macrobiotic section is cool!  Bottled sauces like PremierJapan’s ginger-teriyaki,  Mirin (a light slightly sweet sauce), Tamari (healthfully brewed soy sauce), and miso flavored dressings are the best ways to make a quick stir fry.

7.  There are fantastic alternatives to Hellmans.  Spectrum brand makes all kinds of mayos and sandwich dressings based on high quality oils like canola, safflower and olive.  They come in light, egg-free and vegan varieties.  Great for a tuna salads and turkey sandwiches.

8.  Natural sweeteners are the new pink. Gems like Agave Nectar, Sweet and Slender and Stevia are just waiting to replace refined sugar for all your sweet craving needs.
